WELCOME to Mrs. Pensol's (pronounced like pencil) second grade class website! I hope this website will provide students and families information for a SUPER school year!
Sleep 10-12 Hours
"Sleep is the power source that keeps your mind alert and calm. Every night and at every nap, sleep recharges the brain's battery. Sleeping well increases brainpower just as weight lifting builds stronger muscles, because sleeping well increases your attention span and allows you to be physically relaxed and mentally alert at the same time. Then you are at your personal best." Marc Weissbluth, MD
Understand Homework
Homework will usually be math and reading aloud. They may also need to study for
a spelling or unit test and memorize math facts. Homework is almost as important for parents
as for the student! It would be great for you to check your child’s homework and have
him/her fix the ones they miss. If you do this, please put a check mark at the top if you have
checked and corrected their paper. (I will still be looking over these.) It’s a great way to see
how your child is doing and make sure they are understanding concepts!
Papers
This means to sign the Daily and go through any papers in the Home Folder or backpack. Again, this is a great way to see how your child is progressing. Be sure to compliment and encourage your child on his/her work!
Eat Nutritional Foods
“A child with poor eating habits is going to be poorly nourished. That means he or she won't be getting the amounts of nutrients needed for healthy growth and development. This can lead to being underweight or overweight. Poorly nourished children tend to have weaker immune systems, which increases their chances of illness. Poor eating habits can increase a child's risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol later in life.” www.webmd.com
Read Aloud
This is a time for you to sit with your child and listen to them read or take turns reading for about 15 – 20 min. This is to improve fluency so if your child is struggling with most of the words, choose a paragraph or one page to “practice.”
